The Bails 1 juni 2007
Hi all,
The start of the season has been a bit rough. Having almost 35 members we still seem to struggle in having 22 players available on Sunday. Cause? The many medical reasons, business trips, overseas studies, weddings and other business.
Half June we expect most players back at the club and then the crisis to be solved. In the meantime we call upon everybody to step in whenever you can.
A disappointing weekend saw the first team lost at Hermes by 8 wickets. Good innings by Nissar (47), Ben (25) and Mo (33) saw us revive from 48-4 to 187 ao in the last over. Their captain/coach Gavin McRae scored 91 not out and we just could not get the breakthroughs we needed. On Monday both the 1st and 2nd team games were washed out - which was not a bad thing as we had several players missing.
The 1sts managed just 15 overs and HCC2 were on 55-0 on a pitch with an Astroturf outfield.
The 2nds had a real struggle to get 11 players together but eventually did so only to concede 300 against Jinnah. However it was questionable whether the game should have been taking place at all in wet and slippery conditions, and in the end the match was called off at half time.
Friday night's Nachenius Tjeenk Twenty20 was an entertaining encounter against HCC, but despite a respectable 147-9 off our 20 overs they got home quite comfortably by 7 wickets. It was nice to see some Kieviten supporters in the crowd at HCC. This Friday we play away against Quick Haag. They have assured us to have BBQ and drink stands ready for after the game.
Next Sunday the 1st team is away to leaders Rood & Wit and the 2nd team have their first home game of the season against Asvion.
Please, please please respond before Thursday to kievitencricket@hotmail.com with your availability, and let’s give the 2nds a better chance of getting properly prepared for next weeks game.

KIEVITEN II
Jinnah 3 307-9 50 overs (Peter 3-55, Chaudhry 2-33, Nasir 2-40). Match abandoned due to rain
A wet day in Amsterdam saw Kieviten get 50 overs of valuable fielding practice (also known as some standing in a wet field throwing round a bar of soap…) but nothing much more as the rain prevented a result.
Jinnah chose to bat and a fully fit Nasir (2-40) took the new ball bowling a tight line and clean bowling one of the openers. Peter, Karn and Mohsin tried hard but everyone struggled with the wet ball and slippery pitch. Generally when the ball went in the air it fell in the gaps.
Raja (10-1-38-0) bowled his usual tight stuff but without any luck or umpiring decisions and it needed Nasir to come back and make the break through. Robin (1-21 of 2) in one of his first bowls for the 2nds persuaded their highest scoring batsmen to smack a ball to midwicket where Raja took a good catch. Chaudhry bowled some annoyingly tricky flighted stuff which resulted in frustration for Jinnah …and two good wickets for Mr Chaudhry - both clean bowled.
The last 10 overs saw some strong hitting but late replacement “XXXX” got their best batsman caught behind (well done J-W) and Peter (3-55) picked up some “cheap” wickets without ever bowling well (I won’t mention the three dropped catches in the last over!).
Once again Kieviten had conceded 300 but with probably a 10% better performance than last week. We got through the 50 overs and stayed together as a team. A special mention is due to Karn and Robin who fielded with energy all day.
Cheese sandwiches in the clubhouse were followed by a team meeting. After discussion, we decided that the rainy weather and delayed start meant that finishing the match would be impossible and so, with the agreement of Jinnah, we ended up calling the match off. In fact, Jinnah were wondering why we hadn’t complained about the weather earlier and come in out of the rain.
Worth mentioning that Jinnah played the game in an excellent spirit & kept everything light and relaxed on a wet & cold day.
Man of the Match – Nasir – a couple of good wickets and looked a proper bowler. Good catch as well!

The creator of our website, the company Yes2Web, has given us instructions on how to put pictures and imbedded media (YouTube) movies on the site. Many thanks to our contacts with Yes2Web, Jeroen van den Berg en Jop Bröcker, for their patience and help.
Taken the response we’ve received over the week we certainly put smiles on some faces as people found:
- the 1949-1998 averages again;
- proof that we had the Indian XI as well as Dutch XI at De Kieviten back in 1986;
- Kieviten's tour to Cayman Islands;
- Championship 2005: Kieviten I’s finish of the last match of the season and celebration moments afterwards.
Thanks all for your contributions.
Please keep sending us e-mails. We love this sort of stuff and somehow we’ll find a spot to fit it in. Definitely more photo’s of the period between 1949 and 1990.
We want more team photo’s (digitised if possible or otherwise by mail.)

We’ve been challenged by my veteran hockey team from Voorhout for a Twenty20 match at Kieviten on Tuesday 12th. This event is to be considered as their end of season do and will be followed by a late dinner. MHC Voorhout is a nice social bunch of lads that have played before.
Anyone interested in playing please contact us.
Erik van Driel (Kieviten first team hockey coach) informed me that he’s interested in having a similar match against his team.

DATES:
SGS is on August 22nd
Old Kieviten – Kieviten : Ever since we’ve started playing SGS in the new format (having old players around) some of you have expressed their wish to have an Old versus New Kieviten cricket match. Recently we discussed this more detailed and are now considering in organising this match. In order to be sure that we have enough players on the day we want people to let us know what they think about this plan and put forward their availability. Its success depends on you!

Jan-Willem,
Hope you are well, keep sending those reports. I look forward to reading them every week.
Could you do me a favour? I am wondering whether you can ask if I can get the cricket magazine sent to me here in England. I have tried to email the KNCB and the magazine directly but have had no reply. If it is easier I am willing to receive the magazine 2nd hand from someone at the club. Or perhaps it could be sent to someone at the club and forwarded on. Hope you can help.
Me and Helen are hoping to come out to Holland to see a match very soon with our daughter, Lois, who is nearly 5!!
Look forward to hearing from you

Hi Mat,
All is well here. Nice to hear you're coming over soon. On August 22nd we're having another match against SGS.
This year we're also planning to have an Old Kieviten - Kieviten match. That is if we can bring together enough players. Perhaps you can let us know when you're coming. This way we both can figure out our schedules. Maybe you can persuade Erik van Alphen to come down too. I know his brother Bram won't be playing SGS this year but with a bit of luck he can make the Old Kieviten - Kieviten match.
On your behalf I've contacted Jeroen v/d Akker (player from Quick Haag) from Goedinvorm BV. He said it's no problem to send the magazines to you in the UK. He will sort out your Cricket Weekblad subscription if you send him the address. Just reply to all and we'll take care of it. The membership I believe costs € 40,=. Not sure if there are additional postal costs.
Nice to hear from you and look forward to see you again. Last Monday Jamie O'Sullivan (2001-2006) was over from Singapore. After the matches we all went down to the restaurant on Breitnerlaan in Den Haag called Lof der Zotheid and had a good time there.
Last but not least! If you have some good stories or photo's for our website please send them to us. We want to give our website a more personal touch so people can find themselves back on our site and remember the good times.
Give my regards to Helen.
Cheers,
JW
